Obituary for James Dunning "G" Garland

James Dunning "G" Garland
Alton, ME. Jimmy “G”, 52, was born in Bangor, Maine on May 24, 1966 and lost his short battle to pancreatic cancer on July 20, 2018. He never gave up his belief that he could win this battle. Even as sick as he was he got up every day and took on the day for his children. The day he did not get up was the day he passed on to his next adventure. Family was everything to Jim. He lived his life to the fullest traveling the world while attending UMO and earning both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Jim loved the outdoors and shared that love with his family. They had many adventures camping, skiing, hiking, biking and hunting, but his greatest love was rafting and his river guide family.
Jim never met anyone whose lives were not impacted by him. He made everyone feel like they were the best human being in the world and it was uplifting and fun to be with him. Jim gave the gift of unconditional love.
Jim had a diversified career doing singing telegrams, airline steward, training Olympic level skiers at the Carrabassett Valley Academy at Sugarloaf, college professor, call center translator, wind turbine washer, there was never a challenge that he would not take on. He was a loving caregiver during his father’s final years. His last job which he loved, was as a dealer at Hollywood Slots.
Jim is survived by his 3 children – Abigail, 18 – Joshua, 15 – Michael, 11 and their mother Gail Nadeau. His Fiancé Shelly Spear-Hamilton and her children Jessica, Andrea & Dan Soule, Joshua and Ariana. His mother Jane D. Shubert, his stepmother Pauline Garland, siblings Jane Demaso and husband John, Jonni-Anne Carlisle and husband Colin, Joseph Garland, Jayson Shubert & Allison. He also leaves behind his niece Tiffany Carlisle and husband Jared Milligan, great nieces Grace & Addison Milligan and great nephew William Shubert. He also leaves behind numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.
Jim was pre-deceased by his father Philip Garland and nephew Adam Carlisle as well as his beloved dog Duchess.
A celebration of life will be held 4 to 6pm, Thursday July 26th at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center Street Bangor, ME.
