Obituary for Karen A. Young

It is with profound sadness that the family of Karen Ann (Boulter) Young announces her passing at the age of 66 in her home in Bangor on June 8th, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. Karen was the eldest child, born to Helen (Sutton) and Arthur Boulter on March 29, 1952, in Salem Massachusetts. Karen and her family moved to Crestmont Road in Bangor prior to beginning elementary school. Karen completed her education in the Bangor School Deptment and was humble in her achievement of Valedictorian for the Bangor High School Class of 1970. Karen continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono, obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Karen loved math and numbers, starting her career in the banking industry before returning to her love of education. Karen was a teacher and Assistant Principal for over 30 years at the St. John’s Campus of All Saints Catholic Schools in Bangor. She had a passion for learning, and touched generations of students and their families during her tenure. Karen’s own family was her priority, choosing early retirement in order to care for her parents during their final years. Karen married Duane Young on December 2, 1988, blending their families and celebrating almost 30 years of marriage. Karen was very active with the Anah Shrine Clown Unit. She was proud to be Mrs. Div-it, and enjoyed helping with all of the clown events, in particular, the Fez-tival of Trees. She had a passion for music and enjoyed when she could join the St. John’s Church Choir. She is survived by her loving husband, Duane, two sons, David Thayer and wife, Karla of Bangor, Josh Thayer, of Surprise, Arizona; step-sons, Duane Young II and wife, Kate, of Hudson, MA, Daniel Young and wife, Jessica, of Natick, MA, step-daughter, Nicole Agostinelli and husband, Renaldo, of Stoughton, MA; her mother-in-law, Priscilla Rollins. Karen cherished her five grandchildren, Lauren Thayer, Owen and Nathan Young, Alexandria and Renaldo Agostinelli. Karen is also survived by her brother, David Boulter, several nieces and nephews, as well as another brother in Florida. Lastly, Karen is survived by her best friend of many decades, Teri Baxter. Karen is predeceased by her parents, Helen and Arthur Boulter, and her brother, Jon Boulter. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held 4pm Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Anah Shrine Center, 1404 Broadway, Bangor.
