BREWER and ORRINGTON- Edward Lewis Campbell, 89, passed away May 31, 2018 at his daughter’s home on Verona Island surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Orono September 20, 1928 the son of Robert Campbell and Frances Bartlette Campbell.Eddie graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1946, worked at Rogers Jewelry Store, Bangor, as a watchmaker until 1967 and IMC/HoltraChem in Orrington until age 62. He married his High School sweetheart, Blanche Mae Giffard in 1948. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in 2015 and this month are together again celebrating 70 years of true love. Ed served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was so proud of the military, those who fought and died for our freedom, the American flag, the great State of Maine and the United States of America. Eddie and Blanche resided in the same Baker Hill, Orrington neighborhood that her family lived in for six generations. They raised three children, Richard “Dick”, Wayne and Colleen. He was active in the Orrington community as President of the Orrington Recreational Association, a member of the Orrington PTA, very active in Scouting with his sons, and a tour guide at the Cole Transportation Museum. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, gardening, camping and long Sunday drives for picnics on the coast. Ed and Blanche were also founding members of BIA Troop Greeters. Ed absolutely enjoyed meeting people and was always curious about people, places and things. If you were not a friend of Ed Campbell, you had not met him yet. In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his lovely wife, Blanche, his oldest sister Avis (Campbell) Flynn and brother Robert “Bobby” Campbell, sister-in-laws Beatrice “Bea” (Giffard) Hatfield, brother-in-law Elmer “Sonny” Giffard and sister-in-law, Charleen (Hanscom) Giffard. Surviving is his son, Richard “Dick” Campbell of Orrington; son, Wayne Campbell and his wife, Tami of Hampden; daughter, Colleen (Campbell) Gross and her husband Mike of Verona Island; his grandchildren, Chad Campbell and his wife Bekah, Colin Campbell, Conor Campbell, Jillian (Campbell) Phillips and her husband Dave, Erin (Campbell) Valle and her husband Bobby, Trevor Campbell and his wife Sara, Ashleigh Adams and Joe Bailey, Kevin Adams and Hunter Gross; his great-grandchildren Kalyx Campbell, Emma Bailey, Evan Bailey, Julian Campbell and Elliott Campbell; his older sisters Corinne (Campbell) Gordon, Eleanor (Campbell) England and sister-in-law Tina (Foley) Campbell; and many Campbell, Flynn, Gordon, England and Giffard nieces and nephews and their children, and special family friend Marsha Wilson. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit the family 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 1p.m. at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, with the Rev. Carl B Schreiber, Jr. officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to attend a reception to follow in the EOCC church fellowship hall. Internment will be at the Marston Cemetery, Dow Road, Orrington following the reception.
