Shirley Hazel  Basque (Clark)
HERMON – Shirley H. Basque, 82, died after a long illness at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 5, 1936, in Millinocket, the daughter of Sterling and Helen (Lord) Clark.

Shirley graduated from Sterns High School in Millinocket. Following graduation, she meet her husband at a “burger joint” where she was currently working. Together, they shared 49 years of marriage. Shirley was a stay-at-home mom, where she raised four children. She enjoyed reading and watching her daily soap operas. Shirley also enjoyed knitting. She would make and donate her hats and mittens to charities and those who were less fortunate. Shirley enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren and family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by the family she leaves behind.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Basque; a sister, Joyce Rolfe; brothers, Danny Clark, Ronnie Clark; and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Basque. Surviving are daughters, Mary Lawrence and husband, Allen, Cindy Allen and husband, Stephen; sons, Byron Basque and significant other, Kathy Hilton, Wayne Basque; grandsons, Allen Jr., Todd Lawrence; a granddaughter, Andrea Curtis and husband, Dan; great-granddaughters, Stella, Charlotte, Krista, Kassandra, Katryna; a sister, Patsy George; a brother, Anthony Clark; a very helpful and caring niece, Billie Jo George; niece, Carlene Adams; many other nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Clark.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center for care and compassion that they showed to Shirley over the last several days of Shirley’s life.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 12 noon until time of service, Friday. Interment will be in Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon.
