Obituary for David W. Dow

David W. Dow
David Wayne Dow, 54, passed away April 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family and Brothers. He was born August 23, 1963, in Ellsworth, the son of Elmer F. and Flora (Schoppe) Dow. David graduated from Narraguagus High School in the Class of 1981. He started working at a young age for the Farnsworth’s in Cherryfield driving a truck and then went to work for HC Rolfes Garage. He was a volunteer fireman for the Town of Cherryfield Fire Department since the age of 14 years old for many years. David was a graduate of SMTC, WCTC, EMTC for Paramedic studies, as well as the National Fire Academy. He started working for the Bangor Fire Dept. in 1988 and retired in 2013. David was one of the original Bangor Members for Capital Ambulance. After retirement he started working with H. O. Bouchard doing what he loved, driving a truck and working in the garage. He was a jack of all trades and could do just about anything. David was a mechanic, a carpenter, a truck driver – you name it – he could do it. He loved working on cars especially on his son’s Nova, driving trucks during his racing days with his cousin Andy Santerre, and vacationing with his family in the warm sun. His pride and joy was his family. David adored his wife and children. He was so proud of his children and all their accomplishments. If you ever spoke to him about his children, you would see him beam and glow. David was a very loyal and honest friend who would lend a hand to them at any given moment or even to a stranger. He was a man who took care of his family and cared for them and their needs right up to the last days of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa J. (Gagnon) Dow; six children, Derek, Damon, Darci, Jack Babbidge, Ellie Babbidge, and Garrett Babbidge; a adopted child #7, Cory Dalton; sisters, Mona West, Wendy Shank, Karen Worcester. Special Family Members Terrie Pinkham and Billy Jo Brooks; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; father-in-law, Gene Gagnon; special friends, Bruce Johnson, Bill Wentworth, Ronnie Gall, Daren Beal, Andy Willigar, and his cousin Andy Santerre. David was predeceased by his parents, a brother-in-law, Bradley West; and he also lost members of his adopted family, Darryl, Mary, Chris, and Danny Farnsworth; and his mother-in-law, Claudette Gagnon. David and Melissa’s family would like to thank the incredible support and love from all their family and friends, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, H.O. Bouchard Family, and the unbelievable support from the brothers and sisters from the Bangor Fire Department and their families. Friends may call from 5-8 PM, Sunday, April 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM, Monday, April 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio Street, Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Season’s Grill, 427 Main Street, Bangor, following the services. Gifts in David’s memory may be made to the Bangor Professional Fire Fighters, 289 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com. David had a few remarkable sayings that will stay with us forever and the way he lived by; “LIVING THE DREAM” & “LIFE DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS”.
