Obituary for Louis Oswood Dort

Louis Oswood  Dort
Kenduskeag – MSgt. (Ret) Louis O. Dort, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 17, 2018. Louis was born September 28, 1928 in Hampden, ME, the son of Lloyd Dort and Doris Hooper.

He graduated from Hampden Academy in 1946. Louis married Clarice Marden on April 18, 1951. They settled in Kenduskeag where they raised their family. He served as a selectman for many years for the Town of Kenduskeag. Louis retired after 35 years of years of serving our country with the Maine Air National Guard, Bangor, ME. He was a former member of the Kenduskeag Union Church. In later years, he attended the South Levant Baptist Church.

Louis enjoyed camping, woodworking, crossword puzzles, watching wildlife in the backyard, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John, sister, Janice, and son, Robert.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Clarice, his son, Richard Dort, daughter, Kathryn Griffith and her husband, Don, son, Brian Dort and his wife Cheryl and his daughter-in-law, Ida Dort. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richard and wife, Abigayle (their children Wally and Matilda), Emily, Nicole and her husband Kris (their children Keagan and Gavin), Molly and Hayden. Louis was looking forward to the birth of his great-grandson in June.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehab Center for his care during the past few months.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor with Stan Griffin, pastor, Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Those wishing to remember Louis in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt.
