Obituary for Richard K. Vernal

BANGOR - Richard K. Vernal, 82, passed away peacefully February 2, 2018, at home. He was born November 29, 1935, in Lincoln.

After high school, Richard served in the US Air Force. He moved to NJ where he married and lived for 30 years and raised a family. He worked in the glass manufacturing industry for many years. Upon returning to Maine in 1977, he worked at Osram (GTE) Sylvania for 20 years until his retirement. Richard was very family and home oriented and enjoyed doing projects around the house and helping others. He was a true animal lover and enjoyed the companionship of his pets. He enjoyed reading and watching TV, especially mysteries and sports. In the past, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome with his family. He took early retirement to help care give his special-needs grandson David, whom he loved dearly and who adored his grandfather.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, of 62 years; daughter, Susan Vernal, and grandson, David Vernal of Bangor; son, Donn Vernal and wife, Ann of Falmouth, and grandsons, Christopher and Brian Vernal of Portland; sister, Dorothy (Vernal) Heck of Vineland, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will take place in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
