RAYMOND W. “RAY” HUMPHREY

AMHERST – Raymond W. “Ray” Humphrey, 72, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, January 30, 2018, at a Bangor hospital due to complications of influenza. He was born June 13, 1945, in Bangor, the son of Carl H. and Laura L. (Farnsworth) Humphrey.
Ray graduated from Lee Academy, Class of 1964. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army as a radar technician, in the 108th Signal Company, during the Vietnam War. After the war, Ray moved to Texas where he began his own construction company. He moved back to Maine and earned a paralegal degree from Beal College in Bangor. Ray enjoyed sharing time with other Vietnam Veterans from the area, and every Wednesday, some would get together and share stories. After the Wednesday meeting, he would always go to Nicky’s Restaurant to meet family for lunch. There wasn’t anything Ray couldn’t fix or make from wood. He always kept his sense of humor, often laughing through tough times. Ray was a family man and truly enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow up.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, David Smart. He is survived by a sister, Lois Smart; nephew, Douglas Smart, all of Mattawamkeag; niece, Toni Poll and husband, David; great-nephew, Hunter Poll, all of Hudson; cousins, Juanita Wainwright of St. George, Jamie Williamson and husband, James Jr. of Orrington, Amber and Everett Williamson of Orrington; brother, Larry DeWitt and wife, Brenda of Ellsworth, Gerald Humphrey of Brewer; cousins, Donna and Alvah Humphrey of Exeter; special friends, Ed Wainwright of Veazie, Ed Healy of Amherst, Elia Packard of Brewer; and a loyal pet, Casper.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Route 9, Clifton, in the spring at a later date. Those who wish to remember Ray in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor ME 04401.
