Obituary for Annette E. Miles (Briggs)

HAMPDEN – Annette E. Miles, 77, wife of 57 years to Arthur Miles, passed away on Jan 22, 2018 after an unexpected and brief illness. She was born on March 28, 1940 in Bradford, ME, and was the daughter of Ted and Rose Briggs. She graduated from Old Town High School in 1958 and went on to attend the 1961 inaugural class of the University of Maine’s Nursing School. Annette started her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital before she and the love of her life Artie, raised their adoring sons. She later balanced work and family working as the school nurse where the boys attended before returning to OB/GYN at EMMC. Here she helped nurture a generation of babies into the world and retired after 19 years. Annette’s passions were her family and friends, her gardens, knitting, and her love for the coast of Maine. She always accommodated others first and was so very generous with love and compassion; wanting no recognition for her efforts. Her friendships were many and she always took time to keep in touch; high school friends, work associates made throughout her career, and countless dear and close friends. She will be greatly missed by many. Annette is survived by her loving husband, Arthur of Hampden, mother Rose Briggs of Brewer, sister Paula Hurt of Olathe, KS, son Glenn and wife Cheryl, grandchildren Alysha and Justin of Standish, son Joel and his wife Beth of Punta Gorda, FL, and cousin Susan Schultz of Spartanburg, SC. A service to honor her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
