Obituary for Gordon Richard Signor

Bangor – Gordon R. Signor, 74, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on October 14, 2017, after fighting a long illness. He was born on July 30, 1943, in Bainbridge, NY, the son of Richard W. and Marthena (Howe) Signor.

Gordon served with the US Air Force in Okinawa and at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, where he met his future wife on a blind date at Columbia Street Baptist Church. Later he went to work at GE for 34 years, where he made blueprints, and where his friends and co-workers called him “Squeak”. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He loved to watch the Red Sox and Patriots. Gordon was very active in his church, and he loved singing in the choir. He was a deacon and a friend to many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lois (Booker); children Shirley McLaughlin and husband, Ron; Sheila Scott and loving friend, Kent; Dan Signor and wife, Gaye; grandchildren Cody McLaughlin, Veronica McLaughlin, and Ashley Beasley and husband, Trevor; great grandson, Jaymes Beasley; step grandchildren Alexa and Kalynda Beal; sister Janice Abbott and husband, Tony; sister-in-law Sharon Signor; aunt Vi Stevens, and uncle Dick; uncle Bob Howe and aunt Mary; and aunt Phyllis Howe, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Lee Signor.

Gordon’s family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Andreescu and nurse, Tresa, at the Lafayette Cancer Center, and to all the staff who were so very special and compassionate to Gordon. Also to VNA Hospice, who helped Gordon and Lois’s family during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held from 5-7 pm Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, Maine, for those who would like to join his family and friends. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Rt. 2, Hermon, Maine. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service. A committal service, with military honors, will be held following the reception, at 3:30 pm, at Evergreen Cemetery, Hermon, Maine. Those who wish to remember Gordon in a special way may contribute gifts in his memory to Hermon Baptist Church.
