Obituary for Ruth Marie Buchanan (Latty)

Ruth Marie Buchanan (Latty)
Bangor – Ruth Marie Buchanan, 93, died peacefully January 20, 2017, at a local healthcare facility. She was born January 8, 1924, in Bernard, the daughter of Douglass L. and Madolyn R. (Closson) Latty.

Ruth attended local schools, graduating from MDI, class of 1942. She went to Husson College, where she earned a certificate in secretarial skills. It was while working at WABI Radio that she met her future husband, David P. Buchanan. Later, Ruth worked at Zayre’s, where she worked in fabric sales. It was a good fit for her because she enjoyed all things that had to do with arts and crafts. Ruth was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Couples Club at All Souls Congregational Church, where she also taught Sunday School. Ruth was passionate about her gardening. She had several beautiful flower gardens, and a productive vegetable garden which allowed her to do a lot of canning. Ruth will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was creative and treated others kindly.

Ruth’s family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the staff at Maine Veteran’s Hospital in Bangor, for the loving care and kindness that was shown to her while she was there.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband David; and her brother James Grant. She is survived by her children, David P. Buchanan II and wife Kathleen, Stephen M. Buchanan and wife Elizabeth, and Cynthia M. Hastey and husband Scott; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her sister, Jane Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and reception will be announced at a later date. Those who wish to remember Ruth in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Maine Veteran’s Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
