Brewer- Ella Mae (Fraser) Leighton, 88, died July 21, 2016, at a Bangor hospital, after a 4 year battle with cancer. She was born February 4, 1928, in Limestone, the daughter of Alexander and Ellen (Griffeth) Fraser.

After high school, Ella attended Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her nursing degree 1950. She had the opportunity to work at Eastern Maine Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. She married Orville “Zeke” Leighton on July 18, 1952. They settled in Brewer where they raised their family together. Ella enjoyed gardening and spending time at Beech Hill Pond. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ella was predeceased by her husband, Orville on July 7, 2016; her daughter Jane Leighton; and brothers, Philip, Preston, Winston, and Dale. She is survived by son John Leighton; daughter Linda Delahanty and husband Dan; grandchildren Jason Leighton, Laurie Lyons, Christopher Leighton, Michael Delahanty, and Meghan Delahanty; and sisters, Patricia Crowe and Margaret Adler.

The Leighton Family would like to thank the EMMC Grant 6 Oncology Staff, and the staff at Cancer Care of Maine for their dedicated care of Ella.

Graveside services for both Ella and Orville will be held 1pm, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Brewer, with Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Those who wish to remember Ella in a special way may make gifts in her memory to The Lafayette Family Cancer Center, c/o EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
