Obituary for Gloria Pauline Dauphinee

Gloria Pauline Dauphinee
Gloria P. (Redman) Dauphinee, 87, passed away peacefully, May 23, 2016, surrounded by her family. Born in Pittsfield, December 18, 1928, daughter of Gayland Redman and Geneva Redman Stubbs.

She was a graduate of Bangor High School. Known as "Nannie" or "Narn," she loved children and at numerous times would have them to care for. Those children were very blessed to have had her in their lives because they saw how a family worked together. She took them shopping, to swimming lessons, sledding in the winter, and exposed them to the wonders of the elderly, while caring for her mother.

Gloria worked as an admitting clerk at St. Joseph's Hospital in the 70's. In the 90's she worked at Porteous until it closed. Surely there are a lot of former Porteous employees who remember her homemade treats for the Sunday workers.

Then great grandchildren began arriving. She would always have them a day or two a week. She was always there for their after-school activities, from dance recitals, to hockey arenas, to softball diamonds and soccer fields.

Gloria could hold her own with any sports fan when it came to the team and sport of interest. Number one on her list was the University of Maine Men's Ice Hockey, however she could be seen supporting all of their teams. Her first "Frozen Four" was in 1993 when the U of M won their first. She went to many more. Gloria was an active board member of Friends of Maine Hockey. She loved to meet the new players each year and then follow them as they joined pro teams.

Gloria was a convert and a parishoner of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a long-time active board member of Philips-Strickland House, helping out with their clothes closest each month and attending their birthday luncheons. Many a times the child she might have that day would always come along with her to meet her friends there.

In 1948, she and Ken moved into the house he built, and there she lived for 61 years until she moved to Avalon Village in Hampden.

Gloria showed her love for her grandchildren by baking each ones favorite treats, and she was very close to her great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Ken of 42 years, her parents, and step-father, Clarence "Stubby" Stubbs and step-mother, Mary Redman, and sister, Joyce White.

Surviving are two daughters, Jane and her husband, Carl Sanborn of Bangor, and their children, Anissa and Marty Malague of Metuchen, N.J., and their children, Jack, Eddie and Molly Malague, Jessica and Kent Salfi of Hampden, and their daughter, Lily Salfi; daughter, Deb and her husband, John Darling of Sarasota, FL., and their children, Carrie and Ed Meo of Hampden and the "boys"

Matt, Dan and Anthony "AJ" Meo, Jay and Karen Darling of Hampden, and their children, Connor Darling of Orono and Meredith Darling of Hampden, Lynne and Mike Melochick of Hampden and their special lab, "Maggie;" brothers, Rod Redman of FL, Frank and Linda Redman of Boothbay, John and Ann Stubbs of Bangor; special brother-in-law, Gib White and his daughters and family, Laura and Bill Michaud, Elaine and Steve Grant and their boys, Chris and Matt Grant. So many more nieces and nephews of many generations all over the country side that she would remember and hold their pictures and notes very dear to her.

One of Gloria's biggest traits was, oh how she could tell a story! NO detail left out!

Relatives and friends are invited to call 3-6 p.m. Sunday May 29, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 1 pm. Monday, May 30, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. A private Rite of Committal will be held, later.

Those wishing to remember Gloria in a special way, may contribute in her memory to St. Joseph's Healthcare, P.O. Box 1638, Bangor, ME. 04402-1638; or to St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 207 York St., Bangor, ME. 04401.
