Bangor – Owen Monday, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully February 4, 2016, surrounded by family at his home in Bangor. He was born February 21, 1934, in Hawesville, KY, the son of Owen and Willie Mae (Manson) Mundy.

Owen joined the US Air Force after he finished school, and retired after serving his country faithfully for 20 years. He was married to Cecelia who preceded him in death in 2005. He later retired from the U. S. Postal Service, and worked at Rich’s Department Store as a security guard. Owen was also a member of VFW Post 1761 in Bangor.

Owen was predeceased by his parents and his wife. He is survived by a son, Owen Monday, III; sisters Elizabeth Davidson, Catherine Acton, Ruby Hemphill, and Mable Johnson; brothers LeRoy, John, Milton, and Albert Mundy; grandchildren Matthew, Angel, and Andre Monday; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor with Rev. Ron Morris, pastor of Glad Tidings Church of Bangor, officiating. Friends are welcome to call from 10am until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., immediately following the service. Interment, with military honors will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor after the reception.
