Emile Albert Amnotte, 94, died on Nov. 24, 2015, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born April 14, 1921 in Biddeford, the eldest son of Emile and Yvonne (Descoteaux) Amnotte. At Biddeford High School Emile was elected captain of both the baseball and the basketball teams, earning the nickname, “Cappy.”

After graduation, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Amphibious Force during World War ll. Emile won 3 battle stars for his action in the invasions of Salerno and Anzio, Italy, and Normandy, France. For his participation at Normandy he received a letter of commendation from the captain of his landing ship tank (LST).

After the war Emile married Maxine Perry of Rockland. They had a daughter, Jeanne, and a son, Thomas. Emile was employed in the textile industry in Biddeford for many years. In 1959 the family moved to Bangor, where Emile worked in the paper industry, retiring as a project industrial engineer from St. Regis, Bucksport, in 1983.

Emile was a devoted husband and father. He was also a great dancer, gardener, photographer, and an avid golfer. He played golf regularly into his 80’s at Bangor Muni. He spent much of his retired life doing volunteer work for his community, especially for Eastern Maine Community College and the Maine Veterans’ Home. Emile was a member of the VFW Post # 1761 Bangor, American Legion, Hammond St. Senior Citizens’ Club, Bangor Singles’ Club, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and Retired Executive Volunteers. He was a former member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and a life member of the Maine Association of Engineers. With his wife Maxine he enjoyed participating in several public service announcements on television and radio in his early volunteer years. Emile and Maxine were happily married for 56 years.

Emile is survived by a son, Thomas, and his wife Patty of Old Town, a daughter, Jeanne McCarthy, and her husband, Jeremiah of Belmont, MA and their two sons, Jeremiah McCarthy of Belmont, MA and Liam McCarthy of Norwalk, CT. He was predeceased by his wife Maxine and two younger brothers, Eugene of Detroit, Michigan, and Robert of Kennebunk.

Emile’s family wishes to express deep appreciation to the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home for the loving care they provided. Emile’s family invites friends to join them from 3-5 PM, Saturday, November 28, in the multipurpose room at the Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, for a celebration of Emile’s life.
