Obituary for Robert Herbert O'Brian

Bangor – Robert Herbert O’Brian, 83, passed away after a long illness on April 21, 2015 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta. He was born February 26, 1932, in Bangor, the son of Pyam and Avis (Lainsbury) O’Brian.
Bob grew up in Bangor, graduating from Bangor High School, class of 1950. Bob later joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany where he was able to travel throughout Europe. He worked many years as a security guard at the Army National Guard base in Bangor. Bob’s passion was music. He enjoyed listening to big band and jazz music and he loved to dance. His other passion was his wife, Virginia. They were inseparable and were happily married for over 40 years. Together they visited yard sales, flea markets, and antique shops throughout New England. Bob loved to travel and would often accompany his son, Perry, to conferences across the country. Bob was very outgoing and could make friends anywhere.

Bob is survived by his sons Gary O’Brian, and Perry O’Brian and his wife Rose; and a brother Gene O’Brian. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Virginia. He is also survived by his very good friends, Ed Markey, Lenny Deitz, Peter Grant and Phil Flagg, who would faithfully visit him monthly at the Maine Veterans’ Home – visits which he very much enjoyed.
