Obituary for Elizabeth Louise McLaughlin

Elizabeth “Betty” (Crocker) McLaughlin, 70, passed away April 10, 2015, after a long and courageous battle against cancer with her loving family by her side. She was born October 20, 1944, in Charleston the daughter of Harold and Barbara (Farmer) Crocker.

Betty graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in the Class of 1963. She was active in 4H, FHA, cheerleading and softball, as well as many other activities. In her earlier years she worked for Merrill Merchants Bank. Then she and her husband, Joel, and their children worked hard on the family dairy farm. In addition to running the farm Betty went to work for SAD 64 for 26 years, working in the kitchen "with The Girls", until her retirement in 2012. She enjoyed baking and gardening and won many ribbons at the fair with these items. She loved mowing the lawn. More than anything her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life and she cherished every moment with them.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Joel McLaughlin; a son David McLaughlin and wife Angela of Hampden with their sons, Joe Page and AJ McLaughlin; a daughter Pam Shoop and husband Mike of Camp Hill, PA, and their daughter Samantha Shoop; a son Gary McLaughlin and wife Angela of Corinth, and their daughters Marissa and Zoey McLaughlin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby Crocker of Charleston, ME and Bill Crocker of Vienna,VA. The family would like to express many thanks to the caregivers at the Lafayette Center and Cancer Care of Maine of their kindness and care. The McLaughlin Family will be forever grateful.

Friends may call from 6-8 Pm, Friday, April 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 3 PM Saturday, April 18, with Pastor David Bean, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service.
