Obituary for Miriam Evelyn Hart (Oliver)

HAMPDEN - Miriam "Mim" Hart of Hampden, Maine died April 11, 2015. She was the daughter of talented immigrant parents, Bernard Oliver of Russia and Elizabeth Shtiff of Poland. She was born in Hartford, CT September 29, 1917. She spent her childhood in the suburbs of Chicago. She attended UConn and graduated from Bryant Business College.

Mim was an administrative secretary at the Eastern Maine General Hospital (EMMC) for 17 years and also manager of the hospital coffee shop. Mim owned Hart's Delight Gift Shop for 8 years, and was officer manager for her son, Forest Hart, Taxidermist, for 10 years. She was an interior decorator - advising, consulting and speaking on color and design, Executive Director of Senior Citizens Council of Greater Bangor, from which she wrote a weekly column in the BDN named "Prime Time," and worked for 6 years in fashion modeling and acting in TV commercials.

She found time to teach gourmet cooking classes and rug hooking. She was a scout leader, active in the PTA and a director of the Hampden K-8 school hot lunch program. She studied painting under Vincent Hartgen, and was a creative seamstress, knitter and even designed her home "Tree Tops." Millinary classes enabled her to wear her many unique creations. Mim was on the Hampden Edythe Dyer Community Library Board and was an active member of the Hampden Historical Society.

Mim was a prominent fixture in the community; a member of the Penobscot Theater, active on the board and volunteering in costuming, a board member of the YWCA, the Bangor Citizens Craft Center, Opera New England, Toastmistress Club, Bangor Symphony Women and the Community Arts' Council. She developed Meals for ME Program, and started her business called "Your Third Hand" Personal Assistance Service.

She welcomed adventure, especially participating in Elderhostel Programs, and with her travels all over the globe.

Mim was predeceased by her husband, Arthur C. Hart, and her son Arthur C. Hart Jr. and his wife, Natalie S. Hart, brothers Jack Oliver and wife Helen, Philip Oliver and wife Jean. She is survived by brother Richard Oliver, wife Liz, sister Jeanne Pritchard and husband Robert and sister-in-law Elaine. She leaves Arthur Jr.'s daughters Sara Hart Chisholm and her husband Terry of Nova Scotia and children Cameron, Kaitlin, Lauren and Bryson. Laura Hart Wagner and husband Shane of Chatham, NJ and children Owen, Ella and Alice. Her son Forest Hart, Sculptor, and wife Susan of Monroe, ME. Daughter, Nancy Hart Pfrommer and husband, Paul of Dallas, TX, and children Natasha Woolery, husband Brian of Midlothian, TX, their children Camden, Whit and Hunter. Nicole Taylor, husband Todd of Trophy Club, TX. Nerissa Ellis, husband Jason of San Antonio, TX, and their children Holden and Coen. She leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and devoted friends.
