Obituary for Harriet Geraldine Tilley (McKinnon)

BANGOR - Harriet McKinnon Tilley, wife of Arthur R. Tilley, died February 25, 2015. She was born on Armistice Day, November 11, 1924, the youngest child of Victoria (Pelkey) Mckinnon and Wm. Stanley McKinnon.

A lifelong resident of Bangor, she is survived by her husband of 71 years, daughter Anne and son Matthew. She was Old mama to granddaughters Ruth, Kathryn, Ezabell, and Victoria, and great-grandson Alexander; aunt to Vicki; and friend to Ashley, Liz, and Nancy. She was predeceased by her son Arthur R. Tilley, Jr.

Arthur and Harriet were married February 16, 1944 while he was on leave from the Army Air Corps prior to his being shipped to Europe to fight in World War II. After the war they settled in Bangor. During their marriage they had many businesses, including Tilley’s Market, The Ohio St. Coinamatic Laundry, Directway Inc., and Page Telephone Answering Service where Harriet worked for many years under the alias Mary Alice, Operator No 9.

The family would like to express our thanks to Elizabeth Frederick of Martin’s Point Healthcare and the staffs of Loving Touch Home Health and New Hope Hospice.

Harriet requested that services be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Harriet in a special way may make gifts in memory to the Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St., Bangor, ME 04401, Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, 263 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401 or Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt.
