Obituary for Agnes Iona Wolverton

Today, January 16, 2015, the angels came and took our beloved Agnes I. Wolverton, 87, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born Feb. 15, 1927 in Andover, N.B. Canada to Samuel and Annie (Reid) Wylie. Inez was the wife of the late Clarence Wolverton.

A “County” farmer’s wife, Inez was known for her uncanny ability to feed a crowd with little or no notice. The quality and quantity of her meals left no one looking for more. Her deep love and passion for her family was best displayed as she hosted “Christmas Eve at Grams” for the past 35 years. A Christmas Eve gathering of 30 hungry carolers was not unusual.

Inez is survived by daughters, Sharon Sutherland of Santa Rosa, FL, Diane Parsons and her husband, Clint, Val Hersom and her husband, Cal, all of Otis, ME; daughter-in-law, Beth Wolverton of Kenduskeag; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Wood of Port Williams, Nova Scotia; sisters-in-law, Helen Wolverton of Ft. Myers, FL, Helen Hanson of Tulsa, OK and Jean Wolverton of Fredricton, N.B.; special friends, Helen Harding and Joyce Payne. In addition to her husband, Clarence, she was predeceased by a son, Charles and son-in-law, George Sutherland. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at EMMC for their loving and compassionate care for Inez.

A funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Bangor Church of the Nazarene, 1465 Union Street, Bangor with the Rev. Mark E. Stanford, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church immediately following the service Tuesday. Spring interment will be in the Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. Those who wish to remember Inez in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Bangor Church of the Nazarene, 1465 Union Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
