Obituary for Ruth Saliba

BANGOR and LAMOINE – Ruth H. Saliba, 86, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on January 12, 2015. She was born March 3, 1928 in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada, to Habeb and Wardi (Aboud) Hauraney.

Ruth graduated as an R.N. from Brockville General Hospital in Brockville, Ontario. After graduation she went to work in Lakeland, FL where she met and married her husband, Samuel Saliba. They moved to Bangor, Maine where she worked as an R.N. at EMMC and she helped her husband build up their business, Salibas Rug Sales. She was very active in her community and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bangor and of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Ellsworth. Ruth was a past president of E.C.W., Altrusa, a member of EMMC Auxiliary and a volunteer of Loaf & Fishes & Faith in Action. She loved working in her flower gardens at her beloved Lamoine home.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Mona J. Sites of Bangor; her son, Stephen B. Saliba and his wife, Debby of Brewer; grandchildren, Robert Saliba and his wife, Amy of Commerce, GA, David S. Saliba of Brewer, Kenneth S. Lynch of Bangor, Christine R. Lynch of Bangor and Anthony Dennison of North Carolina; great grandchildren, Madison McKusick, Lydia Lynch, both of Bangor, Sara Saliba and Ella Rose Saliba, both of Commerce, GA and Kenda Swanson of Franklin, ME; a sister, Amelia Canning and her husband, Bill of St. Therese, Quebec Canada; one brother, John Hauraney and his wife, Shirley of Lumbardy, Ontario Canada and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Saliba, her parents, brothers, Henry and Elie Hauraney, and sisters, Lillian Dewey, May Stranberg and Madeline Slegg.

A memorial service will be held 11am Friday March 6, 2015 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 225 French Street, Bangor with the Rev. Canon Marguerite A.H. Steadman, rector, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
