Obituary for Edward Gene Warman

Edward Gene Warman
Edward G. Warman, Sr., 70, went into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, December 12, 2014, after a courageous battle with COPD. Ed was born in Greenville, September 26, 1944, the son of Lester Arthur and Adelaide (Gellison) Warman.
Ed had a work ethic that could not be rivaled. He worked many jobs throughout the years, beginning when he was 16 and took a job gardening for the Greenville Inn, working for Julia Sheridan. He shoveled snow for the Canadian-Pacific Railroad. Ed began to work in mills, first with a veneer mill, and then took a position as a mechanic for Scott Paper Land Management and later still as a forklift operator for Boulettes, Dirigo and Greenville Forest Products. One of his favorite stories to tell was of being a part of the last log drive in Maine in 1976, traveling down the Kennebec River for Great Northern Paper. Ed was very comfortable running big machinery, and became a plow truck driver for the Town of Greenville. He was very proud of the fact that despite his 8th grade education, he was able to retire from the Department of Transportation as a Supervisor of the crew in Shirley-Greenville. Ed was also the owner and proprietor of Happy Hollow, a recreational center and snack bar in Greenville that was the very first in the area to add commercial pizza ovens into his kitchen. Ed sold the pizza ovens to the Andersons and then to the Jamisons, but they still remain in Greenville today. Ed loved to work on projects with his family, too. He raised animals, even those requiring the use of an incubator. He loved landscaping and selling worms from turning the garden over. Several Christmas seasons, the family made wreaths together from cutting boughs: making, decorating, taking orders and delivering them to customers. Ed loved Christmas and one year even received an award from Greenville’s Decorating Committee.
Ed was a family man, very proud of all his children, but having three sons was something he was exceptionally proud of. Ed taught his children at Sunday School at the Methodist Church in Greenville Junction. He loved to watch his sons play sports, and later coach basketball, soccer and baseball. He would frequently take his sons to the lumber mills with him, where they enjoyed the treat of riding on the forklift with him. An Eagle Scout himself, Ed was active in the Boy Scouts along with his sons. He was instrumental in his sons Boy Scout Troop, and constructed the winning float in Greenville’s Bicentennial Parade. Ed instilled in all of his children a love for hard work and more importantly, a love of family. A diehard Mainer- Ed also loved his New England sports teams – the Red Sox and Patriots. He earned the name “Cue Ball” for his skill in beating his friends at pool. In addition, Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially bowhunting. Ed’s love for other people carried on even after his passing, when he made the donation of life to the New England Organ Bank. Through his donation, many people will have a second chance at life.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Philomena (Martelle) Warman of Bangor; his children, Katrina Jean Dolloff of Boston, Ed Gene Warman, Jr. and his wife, Penny of Bangor, Michael Arthur Warman and his wife, Margaret of Bangor and Scott Timothy Warman and his wife Sarah of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren, Vanessa, Edward III and Christine, Eric and Ashley, Melissa, Devon, Meagan, Michaela, Joshua Lester, Caleb, Chelsea, Alexis Adelyn and Brianna; 8 great grandchildren, Haley, Emily, Lillian, Halie, Madison, Hayden, Dominik and Brooklyn; brothers and sisters, Marie Pierce, Joanne Martin, Lester “Red” Warman, Jr. and his wife, Bette, Betty Chaisson and husband, Conrad, Merle Warman, and Arlene Hitchborn and husband, George; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to extend thanks for the loving and caring they received from the staff at Ross Manor, including housekeeping, nursing, administration and activity staff, and especially Director Garth.
