Obituary for Russell Osgood McEwen

Russell O. McEwen, 83, died unexpectedly November 2, 2014 at home. He was born September 29, 1931 in Brewer, the son of Mariam (Dyer) and John W. McEwen.
Russell attended Brewer High School, married his sweetheart Myrna Footman to whom he was married for 58 years before her death in 2008. He worked for Footman’s Dairy, Grants Dairy and Garelick Dairy until he retired.
Russell was a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge and the Anah Shriners. The McEwen family spent many summers on Toddy Pond where Russell taught numerous young people how to swim and waterski. He also spent tireless hours on bleachers watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. He loved to go snowmobiling, sailing and most recently four wheeling. His grandchildren and great grandchildren loved their Papa very much and he adored them.
Russell and his hearty laugh will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his close knit group of friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Myrna, he was predeceased by his brother John W. McEwen. He is survived by his best friend and loving companion, Lucille Bosse, his brother, Maynard “Bud” McEwen and wife Jane, his sister-in-law Jane (Rowe) McEwen, his son Mark McEwen and his wife Kim, son Kevin McEwen and his wife Cindy, son Rodney McEwen and his wife Robin, and son Richard McEwen and his wife Jayne, grandchildren Melissa McEwen and her partner Bryce Walker, Mark McEwen Jr and his wife Jill, Cara Palumbo and her husband Mike, Meredith Pinkham and her husband Wade, Rachel Richard and her husband Dave, Keith McEwen and his partner Kayla Bassett, R. Patrick McEwen and his wife Ashley, and Chelsea McEwen. He also loved his 12 great grandchildren, Olin, Larsen, Chloe, Chase, Luke, Giuliana, Brandon, Luke, Amelia, Bailey, Conner and Carter and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 6 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held at 7 pm. with the officers and members of the Ralph J Pollard Lodge #217. A service of remembrance will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 7 at the Brewer Chapel. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Those who wish to remember Russell in a special way may make gifts in his memory to a charity of their choice.
