Obituary for Barbara Anne Dietrich
Barbara M. Dietrich
Blue Hill
Barbara M. Dietrich, 60, passed away September 21, 2014 at the Brewer Center for Health and Rehabilitation. She was born in Jersey City, N.J., March 12, 1954. She graduated from East Catholic High School in Manchester, C.T. Barbara went on to the University of Connecticut, where she graduated and became a physical therapist. Barbara got a lot of satisfaction from working with older people and helping them overcome their health challenges. She did not, however like the for profit health care system we have today. She often said, “It’s health care for profit not for people.”
Barbara enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics and cooking for her family a wonderful chicken lasagna. She loved the coast of Maine and spent many a night in a tent beside the waters of Penobscot Bay at her home in Brooksville she shared with her husband.
Barbara planted daylilies wherever she moved to. She even planted some at her husband’s work site. She made sure her husband mowed around a patch of milkweed on their lawn at Blue Hill. The milkweed attracted many Monarch butterflies that produced the next generation of Monarchs in that patch. We will all remember Barbara when the day lilies blossom and when we see Monarch butterflies.
She is survived by her husband, David M. Dietrich of Blue Hill; two sisters, MaryAnn Michaud of Rockville, CT., Eileen Manning of South Windsor, CT.; step-son, Travis Dietrich and his partner, Terry Craig of Waterford, step-son, Ben Dietrich and his partner, Andrea Caron of Otisfield. Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Sheila Langlois of Michigan.
The family wishes to thank all of Barbara’s doctors, nurses, therapists and health care workers at EMMC and Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation.
A service in celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday November 8, 2014 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 121 Bucksport Rd., Ellsworth. The family invites folks for conversation and refreshments, immediately following the service, there in the church.
Gifts in Barbara’s memory may be made to, Public Citizen, a non-profit group working for a single payer Health Care Program, Public Citizen Member Services, 1600 20th St., N.W., Washington, DC. 20009.
