Obituary for Allen L. Strout

Allen L. Strout
Orrington - Allen L. Strout crossed the finish line on August 22, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Presque Isle on April 1, 1947. He was the son of Francis L. Strout and Mary (Smith) Strout, both of whom are deceased. Allen was educated in the Fort Fairfield school system where his father was the Superintendent of Schools and his mother was a high school teacher. Upon graduation he attended the University of Maine at Orono where he played and slept until noon for a year and a half before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard. He served on the USCG cutter Escanaba out of New Bedford, Massachusetts and as a Hospital Corpsman on the icebreaker Eastwind out of Boston. He was honorably discharged after serving four years. He went to Eastern Maine Voc Tech Institute and earned an Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology and returned to the University of Maine, Orono where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He then went to work for Goldsmith's Sporting Goods selling to schools from Augusta to Northern Aroostook County. From there he became employed in the local beverage business as a route salesman for Bangor Beverage, Briggs Inc., Tabenken, and Maine Distributors as a sales supervisor for 22 years until he came off the road to become the inventory coordinator until 2006 when he retired. Allen also coached Little League for 3 years in the Holbrook Recreation Department and also Pee-Wee basketball and one of his biggest joys in life was watching his son play baseball in Little League, middle school, high school, American Legion, and the Coastal League. Allen also enjoyed a good game of cribbage, reading, and dining out. He volunteered for the Eastern Agency on Aging in his retirement. Allen considered himself to be the luckiest man alive to have met the love of his life, Marjorie, in 2003 and to marry her in 2006 at the age of 59. Wherever he ends up, he will miss her every day. Allen leaves behind his wife, Marjorie; two children; Maia McLeod, residing in New York City and James Allen Strout, and his wife Kelley, and two grandsons, Cameron James Strout and Maxwell Allen Strout residing in Falmouth, Maine; step-children Chris, Aaron, and Megan Becker. He also leaves Lenny McHatten and Ray Seeley, who were his two closest friends. A Celebration of Allen’s life with military honors will be held 4:00pm Wednesday August 27, 2014 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith 55 South Main St., Brewer, in which family and friends are welcome to express their memories of Allen.
