Obituary for Evelyn M. Hicks (Gray)
BREWER AND HARTLAND – Evelyn M. Hicks, 102, died peacefully, July 11, 2014, at her home. She was born August 17, 1911, in Cape Rosier Town of Brooksville, the daughter of Manford H. and Georgie L. (Howard) Gray.
Evelyn graduated from Islesboro High School, Class of 1929, and University of Maine Orono, Class of 1956. She taught school in Maine and Massachusetts for 39 years. Evelyn was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, Penobscot County Teachers Association, and a life member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Evelyn was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
Evelyn is survived by her grandson, Craig Arno and his wife, Joan; four great grandchildren, Kristi Bartlett, Dara Sargent and her husband, Jeff, Jill Millett, and Amy O’Connor and her husband, Matthew; two great great grandchildren, Abigail Bartlett and Parker Millett; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, C. Edward Hicks; a daughter, Patricia Arno; and a granddaughter, Vicki Connell.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 152, Hartland. Those who wish to remember Evelyn in special way may make gifts in her memory to the Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, ME 04412.
