Obituary for Phyllis Elizabeth Whittier
DOVER-FOXCROFT – Phyllis (Burton) Whittier, 74, died April 19, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 12, 1939 in Charleston, the daughter of Francis and Dorothy Fern (Turner) Burton.
Phyllis attended Charleston schools and Higgins Classical Institute. She loved her family, husband, children, granddaughter, great-granddaughter and the children she babysat over twenty-five years. Phyllis loved to crochet and enjoyed arts and craft.
Surviving are her loving husband of 58 years, Robert J. Whittier, Sr., one son, Robert Jr., both of Dover-Foxcroft; one daughter, Debra Clark and her husband, Richard Jr., one granddaughter, Chelsey Belanger and her husband, Jay; great-granddaughter, Molly Belanger, all of Dexter; a very special cousin, like a sister to Phyllis, Diane Marshall of LaGrange; one brother, Shirley Burton and his wife, Irene of Milford; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 12 noon Friday April 25, 2014 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the Superintendent’s Lodge, State Street entrance, at 11:45 am Friday. Those who wish to remember Phyllis in a special way may make gifts in her memory to EMHS Foundation, P.O Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
