ORONO: Gloryanne Pauline (Doyon) Prue, 75 passed away peacefully on April 16, 2014, at her home, after a courageous two-year battle with lymphoma. She was born August 7, 1938 in Rochester, NH to Maurice and Priscilla (Lemire) Doyon. Gloryanne moved to Orono at the age of 12. She was a 1957 graduate of Orono Catholic High School. Shortly after graduating she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Prue, on August 31, 1957. They had 34 wonderful years of marriage at the time of his death in 1991. Gloryanne was employed at several different types of jobs throughout her life. In her late teens she worked briefly as a waitress at the University of Maine, and as a cashier at the candy counter at F.W. Woolworth in Old Town. After high school, she was employed in the circulation department at Bangor Daily News until the birth of her first child in 1958. She then became a stay-at-home mother until 1972 at which time she returned to the BDN until 1977. She was involved with helping her husband with his employment as a manager at Doug's Shop N Save by sorting coupons at the dining room table and also doing payroll at home on Sunday mornings. She also worked for a family friend, Robert Milheron, at his business, Maine Bear Antiques; as well as assisting him with his large annual yard sale, preparing antique shows locally and in MA, CT and PA. In 1992 she went to work for Steve Wegner at North Country Management Group, doing administrative work, part-time, even from home, during her illness. Gloryanne was at her best preparing meals; she loved to cook and bake for large groups of people. She hosted many family birthday dinners and holiday parties. In the mid-1960s she and Paul attended square dancing classes in which they once performed a demonstration at the World's Fair in New York City. She also enjoyed knitting; making snowsuits and dresses when her children were young, and made beautiful afghans for family and friends. In her final two years of life she made many dishcloths, mittens, and hats, which she proudly gave to family, friends, and also donated to Penquis for young families in need. Although she was not an athlete, she enjoyed watching sports, particularly UMaine hockey, and her favorite was PGA golf. She was able to see the Masters tournament in her final week. Due to her illness she was forced to slow down and was able to enjoy daytime talk shows (she quickly turned the channel when a soap opera came on) cooking shows, game shows, and HGTV. Many would be surprised at how well she knew her pop culture. Gloryanne also liked country music, her two favorites artists were Willie Nelson and Alan Jackson. Gloryanne was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orono where she once served as a Eucharistic Minister and, volunteered her time to clean the church. She also practiced her faith at St. John's in Bangor, and St. Joseph's in Old Town. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Delores "Dolly" St. Louis, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by four sons and a daughter; Timothy Sermak-Proulx and his wife, Jeannette, of Sunland, CA, James Prue and his partner Susan DiBona of N. Waterboro, Christopher Prue, and his wife, Lynn, of Orono, Matthew Prue, and his wife, Krista, of Glenburn, and Libbie Bouchard and her husband, Brian, of Hampden. Seven grandchildren were blessed to call Gloryanne, "Grammie". She took great pride in all of their accomplishments. She always kept up on their sporting activities including baseball, track, soccer, cheering, football, field hockey, swimming, basketball, and gymnastics. They are, Krystian and Helena Sermak-Proulx of CA, Ryan Prue and his fiance Valerie McMoarn of Orono, Lauren and Courtney Prue of Glenburn, and Amanda and Allison Wilson of Hampden. In addition, she had two step-grandsons, Jason Bouchard of Carmel, and Jeffrey Bouchard and his wife, Jenny, of Hermon. She is also survived by a brother, Maurice "Arnie" Doyon and his wife, Ruth, of Milford and a sister, Pamela Pelletier and her husband, Wilfred, of Old Town; cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the medical and supporting staff at the following facilities for their treatment and care for Gloryanne: St. Joseph Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Cancer Care of Maine, New Hope Hospice and Loving Touch In-Home Care. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Parish 429 Main St., Old Town with The Very Rev. Wilfred Labbe, Presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall immediately following the Mass. Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
