Obituary for Eva Frances Pennypacker

BREWER - Frances P. Pennypacker, 92, died April 5, 2014, in Bangor. Frances was born February 4, 1922, in Bangor, the daughter of Frank E. and Eva M. Pressey. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1940 and received her B.S. degree in biochemistry from the University of Maine in 1944. Frances taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in the Brewer schools for many years until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church, which she served as organist for a number of years, and also attended the United Baptist Church of Ellsworth. She was a former member of Millwee Chapter #198 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Orrington, the Sunshine Club for Children, the Antique Association of Maine, and the Brewer Garden Club.

Frances’s greatest joy was her family. She married Dean O. Pennypacker in 1948 and together they raised their two daughters, enjoying many family activities and especially summers at the camp that she and Dean built in the 1960’s at Oak Point in Trenton. Frances is survived by Dean, her loving and devoted husband of 65 years; her daughter, Joanna M. Pennypacker of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and daughter-in-law, Jean Murphy; daughter, Ruth P. Bunker of Holden, and son-in-law, John Bunker; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Julie Bunker; nieces, Ann Fessenden and husband, Dave, Christina Buzzell and husband, Pete, and Terri Szucs and husband, Mike, and their families; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Lahaye. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Harold, Donald, and Charles Pressey, and a sister, Madeline Pressey.

Frances’s family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home at Bangor, where she received outstanding care during the last years of her life. At Frances’s request, services and interment will be private. Donations in Frances’s memory may be made to Maine Veterans’ Home, D Unit, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401.
