Obituary for Frederick Coleman Morey

Frederick Coleman Morey
Frederick C. Morey, 65, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed peacefully at his home on April 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Fred was born on March 24, 1949 in Millinocket, the son of Dr. Lloyd and Lillian Morey, and was the last baby born in the Morey Private Hospital.
Fred grew up in the small town of Millinocket the son of a small town doctor, from whom he received his love of science. He attended the University of Maine where he met the love of his life, Nancy (Manning) Morey. During these early years, Fred would commute to the Great Northern Paper Mill, where he worked the last log drive in Maine. He then went to work for the University of Maine where he spent 15 years as a scientific glassblower, also making beautifully intricate artistic blown glass on the side. He then spent numerous years working in retail management followed by employment at St. Josephs Hospital
Fred loved being outdoors and many wonderful summers were spent at the family camp on the Lake Ambajesus. He was an avid sports fan, and like many New Englanders, the Red Sox was a source of pleasure and suffering. A favorite activity was spending the weekend watching the Red Sox with his beloved pets curled up beside him. Family always came first, and true to his loving and generous nature, his home was filled with his four adopted children and numerous rescue animals.
Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy, and daughters Leah, Anna, and Bianca. He also leaves his precious grandchildren, Ian, Eli, and Olivia as well as his sisters, Carolyn French, Sarah Marquis and Lona Reed, and his brother, James Morey. In addition to his parents, Lloyd and Lillian Morey, he was predeceased by his daughter, Katie, and his brother, Dr. Lloyd Morey, Jr.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Eastern Maine for the exceptional care they took of Fred and his family, as well as Cancer Care of Maine for the guidance they provided during this time. They would also like to thank the dear friends and family that wrapped them in their caring arms throughout this time, including Greg and Joanna Askins, Mike and Joan Anderson, Patti, Duncan, and Tiffany Waanders, the Garrick family, and John Manning and Linda Farwell.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held Monday, April 7 at 6:00 pm at the Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 375 Mount Hope Ave, Bangor, with Rev. Russell Hamilton, officiating. Those who wish to remember Fred in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Cancer Care of Maine, c/o EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
